Obituary: Duane A. Smartt
Duane A. Smartt 79, passed away peacefully on September 3, 2018. He was born in Yuba City to Hubert and Dora (Hamm) Smartt.
After graduating from Porterville High he joined the Navy serving as a cook on the SS Sea Robin submarine. He then went on to graduate from Fresno State.
Though his line of work transitioned from ranching to construction, retiring as operation manager after 20 years at H&K concrete cutting, Duane was a cowboy at heart. This was reflected in his support of JCCA and CHSRA junior rodeo organizations. Duane also enjoyed taking friends and family out on the boat, barbecueing for groups large and small, and for the last couple years woodworking in his garage and following his Lady Bulldogs basketball team. Most importantly though, Duane was a proud member of A.A. with 34 years of sobriety.
Duane is survived by his first wife Donna and their daughters Leann (Matt), PattyJo (Andy), his Stepson Michael (Robin) from his second wife Diane; his brother: Mike; and grandchildren Victoria, Justine, Ryan and Cole.
Friends are welcome to attend a celebration of Duanes Life that will take place Saturday, September 15 at 11 a.m. at the family home.
Interment will follow at Arbor Vitae Cemetery.
