Hampton Inn night at the speedway

Hampton Inn night at the Madera Speedway will have a full line-up of racing divisions, featuring the Madera Late Models.

In addition to the Madera Late Models, tonight’s line-up includes a full undercard of the Super Hobby Stocks, the Mini Super Toyotas, the Toyota Sedans, and a Jr Late Model exhibition race.

The local Madera Late Models is a strong tune-up division for the nationally televised RPM Mortgage Pro Late Model Series from Madera. The points battle in this division is something taken very seriously by the drivers and Matt Erickson has a slim point lead over Dillion Tucker and Henk Gaalswyk Jr with Mike Shipero and Lucy Carmona rounding out the top five in points.

In the Super Hobby Stock Series, it’s Howard Holden on top of the points over Steve Schermerhorn and Jon Schlundt.

The Mini Super Toyotas have been racing as well as any division at the Madera Speedway in 2017 and it is Bert Stephens that has the point lead over Dave Lander and Zach Cook. Lander has had the hot hand over the last month, so this will be a competitive race.

Mike Marley has the points lead in the Toyota Sedans, but Thomas Magray is giving chase for the championship holding onto a strong second position.

The Jr Late Model exhibition race features young drivers tuning up for the big televised race series known as the 51FIFTY Energy Drink Jr Late Model Series and these races feature the top 10-16 year old stars in full-sized late models.

This week, several drivers are coming from a long distance, including the Reif brothers out of Las Vegas. They will have a special coach at the speedway as Buddy Shepherd will be at Madera working with the young future stars.

Main events begin at 7 p.m. Cost is $15 for adults, $13 for seniors and military, $7 for youths 6-12 and children under 5 are free.
