A National Leadership Conference this summer will draw members of Family, Careers, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) at Madera High School to compete and network in Nashville, Tennessee.

The conference on July 2-6 at Music City Center will include a private concert by country rock-pop duo Dan + Shay as well as a College Expo, workshops, contests, and exhibits on careers, school resources, fundraisers and more.

The MHS chapter of FCCLA, advised by Michelle Stetsko, received two silver honors — the State Superior Chapter and State Outstanding Advisor awards — at a state conference at Riverside Marriott and Riverside Convention Center in April. Members Sara Bautista, Madeline Cordero, Lesly Garnica and Rita Nahapetian earned chapter degrees, and Maggie Gaytan not only claimed a region degree but also was elected to serve as state treasurer for 2017-2018.

Approximately 70 California chapters — about 750 members, advisors, administrators and trade representatives — attended the 70th annual State Leadership Meeting, which included speakers, a College and Career Show, 24 competitions for more than a million dollars in cash and scholarships, a banquet and formal ball.

FCCLA is a career technical student organization for students in grades 7–12 who are enrolled in family and consumer sciences programs in public schools.
