Stallions plan to salute education

Next week is Madera Unified School District’s Salute to Education week.

Madera South High School has many events planned, including a lawn chair luncheon for all staff in which dessert will be served and many other fun activities. All classified staff are invited to a Krispy Kreme and coffee breakfast, and our entire school is invited to an outdoor concert on Thursday, featuring the famous band Plain White Ts.

On Friday, our students will be treated to our spring sports rally, which will be under black lights, as well as a dance.

We are also saluting our parents, with pictures and an informative presentation on a website featuring a few parents we would like to recognize.

Below are those parents we are honoring for their efforts and commitment to building students with C.L.A.S.S. at Madera South High.

Tim and Jennifer Marical, throughout their daughter Deme’s four years in high school, have been very supportive of her Future Farmers of America activities and are always willing to help. You can catch them at several FFA events, whether it is taking pictures because the advisors are busy or bringing food to help feed hungry students at the Chowchilla horse show; they have always been there with smiles on their faces and huge caring hearts. We appreciate their involvement and willingness to do anything for the benefit of the Madera FFA chapter.

Jack Porter has two daughters who are Stallions — Allison and Sarah Porter – and is pivotal in our aquatics program. He received sponsors and donations for our Swim-a-Thon, and swam 70 laps raising over $2,000 for the program! He also raised funds for our golf program and is a member of the School Site Council.

Manuel Nevarez has served on School Site Council and is serving as the School Site Council chair. His support, insight and guidance have been invaluable to our school and we thank him for his service.

Jim and Deanna Cochran, parents of Logan Cochran, have supported our band with incredible heart for many years. When Jay Rossette assumed the role of band director, the Cochrans were there to support Rossette through the process. Thank you for everything.

Frank and Tricia Molina, parents of Frankie Molina, have given tremendous support to our band throughout the years with Frank even serving as band booster vice president. The Molinas give up many evenings and weekends supporting our students across the Valley and beyond Tiffany Jaime, Monica Miramontes and Mary Ann Audler collectively organize fundraisers, help to prepare amazing meals, as well as tending to uniforms and equipment that needs repair. Our Band Boosters are the backbone of our program and deserve a ton of thanks and recognition.

Gerardo and Angela Garcia, parents of Stallions Emily, Seth and Ryan, are an amazing help to our Madera South Theatre Company. They are so supportive and bring a bright light with them into every situation.

Thank you for all of the encouragement, Mrs. Latimer, her amazing student cast and their fantastic productions

The Saavedras envelop the characteristics and commitment to our baseball program that any coach of any sport would appreciate. They continually go out of their way to assist in fundraising, working the snack bar, capturing memorable images with photos, and always bringing smiles, kindness, selflessness, and dedication to the baseball program. Their amazing support and kindness totally emulate the type of character, student, and athlete that their son Jiovanni demonstrates.

Julie Larrivee is director of activities at Madera South High School.
