Stallions are performing phenomenally
This week at Madera South, 16 of our students attended the HOSA State Leadership Conference, which took place in Sacramento. It was a four-day event with more than 3,000 healthcare students who got to participate in competitions, workshops, and seminars regarding the medical field.
Our HOSA students represented us well, and were recognized by many club advisors and HOSA members from other schools. Congratulations to Breana Ramirez, Nelson Jimenez, Jailene Morales (from Madera South), and Ryan Hernandez (from Madera High) who made it onto round two of the nursing skills competition. Nelson Jimenez placed 5th in state for nursing assisting. Jimenez is now eligible to proceed in the International HOSA Leadership Conference in Orlando, which will take place on June 21.
This past Saturday, six of our advanced guitar students (Arcadio Reyes, Esteban Moreno, Juan Frausto, Anthony Garcia-Perez, Porfirio Montalvo, and Danny Reyes) had the opportunity to display their talent by performing their work at the CMEA regional solo-ensemble festival which was held at Clovis West. They performed for a judge and were rated from Command Performance.
On behalf of Madera South, I am proud to announce that two of our students, Juan Frausto and Danny Reyes, will move on to the state festival in Sacramento on May 5. Congratulations!
Our FFA students have also been doing phenomenally. Three members qualified for the San Joaquin Regional speaking contest: Arthur Cuevas in “Creed”, Gerardo Padilla in “Prepared Public Speaking”, and Susana Villa in “Job Interview” (Susana placed fifth in her job interview competition). Also, congratulations and good luck to Josuel Vásquez, a senior at Madera South, who participated in the Rotary Speech Contest, placing third in the finals. He will move on to compete on April 1st.
Last but not least, Our Rainbow Alliance club took a trip to CSU Monterey Bay, where they were able to meet with the Cross Cultural Center at the campus.
The club members received an overview of the center from the coordinator of the cross cultural center as well as from the student coordinator of the LGBTQ center. This trip gave our Rainbow Alliance club members motivation to continue supporting each other and their high school peers simply by showing them the great amount of support that is in CSU Monterey Bay.
