Wendy Alexander of The Madera Tribune has received a 2017 George F. Gruner award for her sports photography.
She earned one of three honorable mentions in her category. In all, 100 entries (articles and photographs) from 21 newspapers were submitted for consideration. It was the second year in a row that Alexander has been recognized.
The awards, which honor the best work of San Joaquin Valley journalists, were announced Feb. 23 at the Fresno Art Museum. They bear the name of a Fresno Bee executive director who retired in 1988, and are sponsored by the Fresno Bee, Fresno State University and the Central Valley Foundation.
