Free emissions tests to be offered Saturday

Free emissions testing will be offered Saturday from 8 a.m. until noon at the Madera County Fairgrounds, 1850 Cleveland Ave., in the pit lot.

The Tune In & Tune Up event will be sponsored by the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District and Valley CAN.

It will offer valley drivers who have owned their cars for at least six months with free vehicle emissions tests. If a vehicle doesn’t pass the test but can be repaired, the driver will receive a voucher for up to $500 in emission-related repairs at a participating STAR-certified smog check station.

Some 15,000 cars have been repaired through the program since it was begun in 2003. Free food and drinks will be served starting at 8 a.m. as long as supplies last.
