County courthouse recognized for design

The Madera County Superior Courthouse has been recognized as one of the best justice facility designs in the country according to a recent review by the American Institute of Architects.

The report, found in the Institute’s 2016 Justice Facilities Review, praises the courthouse for its design and appearance.

“There is a procession and hierarchy in the design of the public flow, transitioning from the informal to the formal experience,” the review said. “The design conveys the image of a courthouse while reflecting the dignity of the public in an approachable way.”

Located at 200 G St., the Madera County Superior Courthouse includes 10 courtrooms and 10 judicial chambers, and cost $100 million to complete. In tandem with the Memorial Courthouse Park, the court creates a town square in Madera.
