Sheriff’s Deputy Chuck Reiring honored

A dramatic show of support with approximately 30 uniformed law enforcement officers turned out Friday to say goodbye to one of their own.
Retired Sheriff’s Deputy Sgt. Chuck Reiring died Sept. 3 at age 68.
Born in Burbank on July 24, 1948, to Leonard and Hermine Reiring, he moved with his family to Madera when he was in the sixth grade. He attended John Adams Elementary School, Thomas Jefferson Middle School and graduated from Madera High School in 1965.
Sgt. Reiring, 68, began his law enforcement career as a reserve deputy with the Madera County Sheriff’s Office in 1971 before joining the department as a full time Deputy Sheriff in 1975.
During his 32 years with the Madera County Sheriff’s Office, Sgt. Reiring worked as a jailer, a Chowchilla-area deputy and Valley Patrol Watch Commander. He served as a K9 Handler with “Skipper,” and as a member of the Search and Rescue Dive Team, and the TAC team a forerunner of the county’s SWAT team, said Varney.
Other assignments Sgt. Reiring held included reserve deputy liaison and sheriff’s system administrator. After retiring from the Sheriff’s Office in 2003, he worked for the Madera County Information Technology Department. He also supervised security at the Madera District Fair for many years.
Sgt. Reiring is survived by his wife, Joyce, daughter Kari and husband Patrick Lauver, son Chuck Jr. and his wife Angie Reiring, daughter Kathy Reiring, mother Hermine Reiring, brother Ron Reiring, sister Dianna Reiring, 8 grandchildren, 8 nephews and nieces, and 9 great nephews and nieces.
Services were held Friday under the direction of Jay Chapel with interment at Arbor Vitae Cemetery.
