Madera District Fair entry forms welcome

Madera County residents who plan to compete in the Madera District Fair have until Aug. 16 to submit entry forms as individuals or groups, including classes.

The forms and Exhibitor’s Handbook are available at the fair office, local businesses and at www.maderafair.com. The handbook details fair contests, guidelines for submissions and all related dates and deadlines.

New this year, a barbecued ribs contest, live floral arranging contest, a billboard contest, and various photography and fine art competitions will shape the contents of the fair’s exhibit hall. Fittingly, the theme will be “It’s Your Fair.”

The Madera District Fair organizers have partnered with the Madera District Fair Heritage Foundation to create an “I Love This Town” contest for Madera County high school students for the classes of 2016 and 2017. The contest will showcase student volunteer work on tri-fold presentation boards. Six of the entries will be selected to compete — along with an in-person presentation — on the Patio Stage on the fair’s opening night, Sept. 8. The top three awards include prizes of $500, $300 and $200.

Regardless of contest, first-time exhibitors can earn a free single admission for entering a fair contest.

The “Madera fair has a fun and simple form specifically for first timers to get in on the action and display their masterpieces proudly,” said Barbara Leach of the Madera District Fair. “It can be found on the back cover of the Exhibitor Handbook.”
