Coyotes track team sends rookie and veteran to state

In her third trip to the Central Section Master’s Championships, Madera’s Addyson Smith finally got the gold medal.

On her second throw of the meet at Buchanan-Clovis’ Memorial Stadium on Saturday, Smith, a junior, threw 41 feet, 5.5 inches, outdistancing the field by well over a foot.

“Everybody down there has got to be in amazement on how this girl with her stature can throw that far,” Madera track coach Russ Stanford said. “Her technique is so good. Forty feet is the magical number. (Throwing coach) Tim Mejia was looking at 42 feet at the Valley meet.”

Last year, Smith was one of three throwers to throw the shot more than 40 feet and placed second. She placed third her freshman season...
