Stallions run away with league win

Madera South’s Anna Kajitani gets a kill past McLane during Tuesday’s three-set sweep. She had five kills to go with seven aces in the win over the Highlanders.


The Madera South Stallions showed off its prowess in the North Yosemite League with a dominating three-set sweep over the McLane-Fresno Highlanders.

The Stallions outscored the Highlanders 75-27 in the three sets. McLane only held the lead for two points and scored just six points with the serve.

Jazlynn Vargas led the Stallions with a team-high 14 kills. The rest of the team contributed 18 kills with Anna Kajitani adding five kills.

The Stallions also recorded 18 aces against the Highlanders. Kajitani led the Stallions with seven while Danae Prudente served up six.

The Stallions jumped to the early lead to open the match when Vargas opened the first set with a soft kill for side out. Jocelyn Prudente-Martinez recorded a solo block and Kajitani served up an ace for a 4-0 lead.

Vargas had a pair of kills and Elissa Escobar served an ace for a 7-1 lead.

After a Prudente side out kill, Angelina Aguirre served up an ace for a 13-5 lead. After Kajitani put down a side out kill, Prudente served up two aces for a 15-6 lead.

Vargas put down a side out kill and Kajitani served up five straight points. Three of her serves weren’t returned and Madera South led 22-7.

The Highlanders got an ace, but Prudente-Martinez put down a side out kill and Escobar served up an ace for set point.

The Highlanders got the side out and added two more points before Prudente-Martinez closed the set with a kill for a 25-12 win.

The Stallions dominated the second set that they didn’t even go a full rotation.

Escobar put down a dump kill for a side out and Kajitani served up the next eight points.

In the run, Kajitani had three aces while Vargas put down a pair of kills, Prudente-Martinez had a solo block for a 9-1 lead.

A Vargas side out kill led to an Escobar ace for an 11-2 lead. A Hannah Eades side out kill led to a Diana Moreno ace. Eades served up an ace for a 17-5 lead.

After Prudente put down a kill, she went back to serve out the set. In the final seven points, Prudente served up four aces while Kajitani added a kill. Vargas ended the set with a kill for a 25-6 win.

McLane scored the first point of the third set for its last lead of the match. Kajitani put down a side out kill. She then went back to serve and scored 12 straight points.

In the run, Kajitani had three aces. Vargas put down four kills while Eades and Prudente-Martinez had one each. Prudente added a back row kill for a 13-1 lead.

An Aguirre side out kill led to a Prudente kill and a 17-3 lead.

After a McLane missed serve, Prudente served up two points with Vargas and Kajitani putting down kills for a 22-18 lead.

Vargas and Eades put down side out kills, with Eades forcing match point.

With Escobar serving, Aguirre ended the match with a kill for a 25-9 win.

Over the final two sets, the Highlanders scored just one point with serve and led just twice. Of the 15 points for McLane, five came on Stallions’ missed serves.

Madera South closed out the week against Fresno on Thursday and face the Matilda Torres Toros for the first time on Tuesday at MTHS.
