The Matilda Torres Toros baseball team show off their horns while celebrating with the Div. VI Championship plaque after a 10-6, come-from-behind victory over Mendota on Saturday at Visalia’s Valley Strong Ballpark.

The Matilda Torres Toros baseball team had been there before, but made sure the result was different this year at Valley Strong Ballpark in Visalia for a Central Section championship.

Last year, the Toros lost in the Div. V championship to the Shafter Generals. This year, the ninth-seeded Toros found themselves in a 4-2 deficit heading into the final inning Saturday in the Div. VI championship game against No. 3 Mendota.

Then, came the improbable. The Toros sent 14 batters to the plate in the top of the seventh to score eight runs to secure the Div. VI title with a 10-6 win on a sweltering hot afternoon with a 1 p.m. start.
