Senator Anna M. Caballero has recognized Matilda Torres High School graduate Jose Eduardo Rodriguez Vargas as her Senate District 14 2023 Latino Caucus Scholarship award recipient.

Rodriguez Vargas was an active member of the Madera Leo Club, Class Council Secretary and a member of his school’s Speech and Debate team. While maintaining a 4.33 GPA, he worked as a field laborer. He plans to attend the University of California San Diego where he will study structural engineering.

“I applied for this scholarship the second to last day of school. I get this email at the end of June. I’m looking it up to see if it’s legit,” he said. “It means a lot to me to get this scholarship. It’s less of a financial burden to my parents. It reassures that all the hard work I put in matters and it paid off.”
