Pershing Elementary students show off the many cans of food collected during a drive this month.
John J. Pershing Elementary School held a food drive to help Valley West Christian Center, and collected more than 2,000 items of food over a three-week periods.
Beginning after Thanksgiving break, the more than 700 students competed to collect items of food until December 14. The winning class received a pizza party and the two runners-up received donuts, all courtesy of Valley West Christian Center.
Librarian Mrs. Callahanand first grade teacher Amy Kuhn helped promote the events. They also had Santa and elves greet students and families to encourage donations.
