Obituary: Dora Short-Robertson

For The Madera Tribune

Dora Short-Robertson.

On Feb. 8, 2023, our family and the local community lost a pioneer, advocate, and a loved one at the age of 71. Dora Short-Robertson was a strong, independent woman who went against the grain. She made a career at Baltimore Air Coil, working in the manufacturing department as a machinist; an industry which is predominantly dominated by men. Her strength didn’t stop there as she was an influential community leader who would challenge local political injustices to protect freedoms.

Her passions extended beyond exploring nature with her late husband, training exotic birds, and restoring vehicles but led her to be quite knowledgeable within multiple niche categories and constantly sought an overall greater understanding of our world.

Survived by her son Gregory Short, her brother Billy Short (Brenda), and her sisters Mary Slama and Anita Grady. She will be greatly missed by the family and friends alike. Preceded in death by her spouse William Robertson, her mother Margaret Short, her sister Dorothy Short, and her brother John Quintana.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Friends of Madera Animal Shelter in her honor.
