Matilda Torres Toros head coach Jose Villalobos (seated) gives instructions to his team during a time out in the Div. VI Central Section championship game on Friday.

FRESNO — The Matilda Torres Toros finally ran into a team that can take advantage of their mistakes and the Lindsay Cardinals made the Toros pay for a 53-37 victory in the Div. VI Championship game at Selland Arena.

The second-seeded Toros turned the ball over 28 times and shot just 4-of-14 from the free throw line (29 percent) while the fourth-seeded Lindsay Cardinals drained six 3-pointers in the victory.

“They are very similar to us,” head coach Jose Villalobos said. “They are very young. They trap the same. We do the same full-court press. Our personnel are similar. The difference was they made shots. The Selland factor didn’t affect them. We made a little too many mental mistakes. We just ran out of time.”
