Military to civilian life transition, part 2

Veterans’ Voices is directed toward veterans and their families who have given so much to ensure our freedom in this country. This is an area where you may share your experiences, or read of other veterans’ experiences. We thank you for your service, and hope that you know how much you are loved and appreciated.

So, there I am walking around my house in the middle of the night, checking for the enemy and making sure all of the doors and windows were secure. That morning, about 8 a.m., I was sitting on my front porch enjoying a twelve pack of beer. Every two minutes, I would stand up and walk across the street. Stand there for a few minutes, then I would walk back to the house. Sit there. Then get back up and walk a few blocks down the street. Walk back and sit there for a few minutes. Get up and walk a different direction and then walk back.

Right then, an old family friend was watching me and walked over. He said, “Royal, what the hell is wrong with you?”

I responded, “What are you talking about?”
