Madera Parks and Rec announces programs

Some of the programs offered by the City of Madera Parks and Community Services Department.


Movies in the Park


The Summer Movies in the Park began Friday, and will continue every Friday until August 25. Friday’s movie was Super Mario Bros. Next Friday’s movie will be Turning Red, followed by Minions, League of Super Pets, A Bug’s Life, Lyle, Lyle Crocodile, Bad Guys and Sonic 2. The movies will be shown at the Lion’s Town and Country Park’s Amphitheater and begin at about 8:30-9 p.m. Concessions will be sold, but there is free admission. For information, call 661-5498.


Special Needs Soccer


The City of Madera and the Parks and Community Services Department presents a Special Needs Soccer league that will begin August 29 and will last for six games on Thursday at the John Wells Youth Center. The cost is $65 per player. The Special Needs Sports Programs offer enriching experiences for individuals ages 6-18 with disabilities who are enrolled in school. These programs provide a variety of low and mid impact drills and activities to improve motor skills and boost self-esteem. For information, contact the parks department at 661-5495.


Tiny Tikes Soccer


Tiny Tikes Soccer will begin July 26 at the John Wells Youth Center. It’s a four-week program for children 2-5 years old. They will be taught in a fun, non-threatening environment. Two-to-three year olds meet on Wednesday and Thursday from 5:30-6:30 and 4-5-year-olds meet from 6:45-7:45 p.m. Register online at madera.gov/register by July 16.
