Coyotes win in first-round

The Madera Coyotes girls water polo team swept through the County/Metro Athletic Conference with an 8-0 record, and looked to do damage in the Central Section Div. III playoffs.
Up first for the No. 3 seeded Coyotes and first-year head coach Lola Gill was No. 14 Bakersfield Christian. The Coyotes scored 10 goals in the first half and kept the advantage for a 15-11 victory over the Eagles.
Madera played No. 6 Frontier out of Bakersfield at McAlister Pool in the Div. III quarterfinals on Thursday. The winner will play in the semifinals on Tuesday against the Santa Ynez/Dinuba winner.
