Madera’s Brilynn Santiago singles in the first inning of Monday’s 8-5 victory over Golden Valley. She led the Coyotes with three runs.
After scoring five runs in the first inning, the Madera Coyotes softball team did just enough the rest of the way for an 8-5 victory over the Golden Valley-Merced Cougars for Madera’s first win in the new Madera Coyote Softball Stadium.
The Coyotes jumped out to a 6-1 lead before Golden Valley made it interesting with three runs in the third. However, Madera scored a run in the fourth and another in the sixth for the three-run victory Monday.
“We made good pitch selections in the first inning,” head coach Judy Shaubach said. “I was glad to see them answer back after that score.”
