Madera’s Rhynne Mitchell tries to drive around Sanger’s Lucia Takeda during Wednesday’s loss to the Apaches. Mitchell led the Coyotes with 13 points and seven rebounds.
The Madera Coyotes girls basketball team knew what they had to do in their match-up with the Sanger Apaches — contain Sanger’s Krista Schaffer.
Schaffer got her points, 25, but the Coyotes couldn’t answer in a 47-34 loss Wednesday in Joe Flores Gym without head coach Jason Smith, who was ill.
While Schaffer scored 25, including going 8-for-9 from the free throw line, the rest of the Apaches combined for 22 points, including going 3-for-8 from the line.
