Cal Fire to conduct training
The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) will conduct a live fire training at Eastman Lake in cooperation with Madera County Fire, and Army Corp of Engineers on June 14 and 15.
If conditions are conducive, approximately 100 acres of grass and oak understory will be burned during the entirety of the exercise. Burning will take place from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. each day.
Firefighters will be training on tactics and strategies of fire suppression, handline construction and perimeter control of wildland firefighting. This training will utilize multiple resources consisting of fire engines, crews, bulldozers, and water tenders.

Grupe Ranch training
Cal Fire will also conduct a training burn June 7-10 on the Grupe Ranch, located on Oak Grove Road. The exercise will consist of burning 100 acres of annual grass, oak woodland and sparse brush total over the entirety of the exercise.
The exercise will also help to improve rangelands by promoting annual grasses, reduce fuel loading and ladder fuels.
