The American Legion Post 11 shut its doors at its facility on Road 26 on Tuesday.

The American Legion Post 11 shut its doors at its facility on Road 26 on Tuesday.

According to Cmdr. Robert Laburada, District 14 closed the doors to the Madera post because of financial distress and lack of membership.

“District 14 came in and suspended services in May,” Laburada said. “I’ve been trying to get members to come back to the post to help bring it back. I couldn’t get many members back. I wrote them letters and did different things to try to get them back in because I didn’t want it to close. We opened the bar and got some people in. On Fridays, we cook free dinners for the members, and three times we didn’t get anybody at the dinner.”
