Public invited to help with Women’s Day events

The city’s annual International Women’s Day Celebration will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Virginia Lee Rose Elementary School, 1001 Lilly St., in the cafeteria.

The day’s focus will be honoring the late Virginia Lee Rose, a prominent advocate for schools and women after whom Rose Elementary School was named.

The theme is #BALANCEforBETTER.

The program, to which the public is invited to both help present and attend, will focus on women in history, women of achievement today and the special needs and concerns of women and girls.

Featured on the program will be performances, guest speakers, workshops, food and displays.

Principal speakers will be Gladys Diebert, senior administrative assistant to the superintendent and trustees of Madera Unified School District; Sayra Vasquez, journalist for KFTV Channel 21 Univision; and Yuliana Franco, licensed agent with New York Life.

Those attending are invited to:

• Bring a display and materials to promote your services for women and girls, or your art, or your knowledge of women in history or women of achievement today.

• Participate in planning by joining one of the sub-committees, which include decorations, setup, cleanup, women’s history fashion show, program, publicity.

• Contribute or cater food, bottled water or a special cake to be served at the lunch break.

• Offer an inspiring short speech or performance of a song, skit or dance.

• Donate to help with expenses.
