Coyotes make quick work of Panthers

The Madera Coyotes girls basketball team held the Pacheco Panthers scoreless or the first five minutes of the game and didn’t let up in a 57-13 victory in Joe Flores Gym.
The Coyotes jumped out to a 20-point first quarter lead, extended it to 30 at the half and allowed just three points in the second half for the win Tuesday evening.
Madeleine McNeil led the Coyotes with 13 points to go with 10 rebounds, six on the offensive glass. BriAnn Houghton scored nine points in limited action. She had five rebounds and four steals.
Kaylee Patlan added seven points with three blocked shots. Miranda Solis added five points with a team-high 11 rebounds and seven steals. Nine different Coyotes scored in the game.
The Coyotes allowed just four field goals to the Panthers and held them to just one point in the third and two points fourth quarters. Meanwhile, the Coyotes could have scored more, but were just 10-of-30 from the free throw line.
A short bucket and a free throw from McNeil and a layup by Patlan off an assist from Cathy Figueroa gave the Coyotes an early 5-0 lead.
Two minutes went by without a point before McNeil made two free throws. Houghton added a free throw and turned a steal into a layup. A free throw from Solis gave the Coyotes an 11-0 lead.
Solis made two more free throws and Patlan went coast-to-coast with a steal and layup for a 15-0 lead.
After Pacheco scored its first point with a free throw with 3:03 left in the quarter, Madera got a offensive putback from Sofia Perez. After a Pacheco layup, Katelyn Fernandez made a running jumper to extend the lead to 16.
Perez put back a miss and Houghton found Sayra Chavez for a layup and a 23-3 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Fernandez made a free throw for the first point of the second, but it took until four minutes left before the Coyotes scored again with a Patlan free throw.
After Houghton made a layup, Pacheco made a free throw. Houghton scored on a layup after a steal, Stephanie Jordan made a layup and Solis found McNeil for a layup for an 8-0 run.
Pacheco made a layup and Solis answered with a jumper and Jordan hit a 3-pointer for a 40-6 lead.
Pacheco scored the final four points of the second quarter, including two free throws with 4.5 seconds left in the half for a 40-10 Madera lead.
McNeil put back a missed free throw a minute into the third quarter.
Pacheco made a free throw with 5:38 left in the quarter and wouldn’t score until the fourth.
In the 8-0 run to close out the quarter, Figueroa made a layup, McNeil made a layup and hit a short jumper and Perez found Figueroa for another layup and a 50-11 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
Jordan made a layup to open the fourth quarter for a 41-point lead to start the running clock. Figueroa made a layup, Figueroa found Patlan for a short jumper and Chavez made a free throw for a 57-13 victory.
