Remembering a fond past from reader’s perspective

Indeed I do remember the Barsotti Bakery on North F street.

When I was in the seventh and eighth grade as a student at the former Lincoln school, my home room teacher, Mrs. Edith Scott began a Camp Fire group. The name of it was the Pahucativa group. We each chose an Indian name, made and wore a beaded headband at meetings. For the needed fundraiser we received doughnuts from the wonderful bakery owner, then sold then to friends of Camp Fire. We became salesmen at an early age.

When we started high school, this same group became the nucleus for Mary Jardine’s first Camp Fire group. Thanks to many faithful volunteers, the Camp Fire organization thrives in Madera.

Ah, memories.
