GOP hopefuls appear before Republican women’s group

Madera Republican Women Federated played host at a 2018 Republican Candidate Forum at the Madera Municipal Golf Course.
The 80 who attended the March 22 event had the opportunity to get to know local Republicans running for state and local offices.
The dinner meeting was opened by MRWF Co-President Janelle Seibert, and the forum was moderated by Leslie Labrucherie, MRWF first vice president, MRWF co-president Taylor Long, and Gina Wallace, chair of the Republican Party of Madera County.
Candidates participating gave personal statements and answered questions, ranging in topic from cooperation with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to cooperation with Democrats in the California State Senate.
The candidates participating were:
Robert Poythress, running for California State Senate, District 12.
Johnny Tacherra, (whose representative, Joe Augusto, stood in for him), also running for California State Senate, District 12.
David Rogers, running for reelection as Madera County Supervisor, District 2; Tom Wheeler, running for reelection as Madera County Supervisor, District 5, Marc Sobel, running for Madera County supervisor, District 5; Brian Austin, running for Superior Court Judge, Office Position 2; Paul Hornick, running for Madera County District Attorney; Sally Moreno, running for Madera County District Attorney; Jay Varney, running for reelection as Madera County sheriff; Tracy Kennedy, running for reelection as Madera County Treasurer/Tax Collector.
The audience was reminded that Primary Election Day is Tuesday, June 5, 2018.
All voters in Madera County will be mailed a ballot 28 days before the election and voted ballots can be returned by mail, at a ballot drop box, or at any vote center.
