Apaches run past Coyotes in 4-2 win

Wendy Alexander/The Madera Tribune Madera’s Seth Valencia sends a penalty kick past Sanger for the Coyotes’ first goal in Tuesday’s loss.

The Sanger Apaches boys soccer team scored three first half goals and cruised to a 4-2 victory in Memorial Stadium.

Sanger scored three goals in a six-minute span to put Tuesday’s County/Metro Athletic Conference match away.

Madera got a penalty kick goal from Seth Valencia and another goal in injury time from freshman Jonah Hill.

Sanger opened the scoring in the fifth minute. They took the ball on the right and crossed it to the left. The Sanger attacker controlled the ball and sent a shot off a bounce past goalkeeper Francisco Segovia for the goal.

In the ninth minute, Sanger earned a yellow card on Segovia. The Apaches quickly put the ball down and sent a shot past the surprised Madera defense into the left corner of the goal for a 2-0 lead.

Six minutes later, Segovia went after a Sanger attacker, but Sanger crossed the ball before a Segovia sliding tackle. The Apaches came in an hit the ball into the open net for the goal.

With 10 minutes left in the first half, Madera was taken out just inside the goalkeeper’s box to earn a penalty kick. Valencia shot under the crossbar to the left for the goal.

In the fourth minute of the second half, Jose Venegas got the ball just outside the goalkeeper’s box and sent a shot on goal. The ball was batted over the net resulting in a corner kick. Miguel Gutierrez sent the corner kick on goal, but just missed connecting with a teammate on a header.

Madera had a chance to cut Sanger’s lead to one in the 25th minute of the second half. The Sanger goalkeeper sent a pass to a teammate. However, Emmanuel Cabello intercepted the pass. He sent an open shot on goal from the left, but it went just outside the left post and out of bounds.

Three minutes later, Sanger countered. They got the ball in front and Segovia came out to defend. He tried to clear the ball out, but the ball bounced off the face of a Sanger attacker. The ball ricocheted to the front of the Coyote goal and Sanger calmly sent the ball into the net for a 4-1 lead.

Three minutes into injury time, the Sanger goalkeeper came out on a ball. Ryan Da Rocha hit the ball on goal and the Sanger goalkeeper went back to get it. Before the goalkeeper got to the ball, Hill slotted the ball by him into the open net for a 4-2 Sanger lead.
