Inside the Game: Kerman Lions 56, Liberty Hawks 26

Player of the game: Like last week, Kaleb Roth could be a player of the game each week. Roth tied a school record with 23 tackles (7 solo). In addition, he rushed for 185 yards and added two more touchdowns to his season total. He now has 1,293 yards rushing (fifth most in school history) and 21 touchdowns (second most) with at least two games left this season. He also has 113 tackles (fourth most).

Unsung hero of the game: Sometimes overlooked on defense are the defensive linemen and Adam Pearce highlighted Liberty’s defensive line work against the Lions. He led the linemen with 11 tackles and finished a solo tackle for loss and a half a sack. He also helped lead a rushing attack that gained 342 yards and averaged 7.5 yards per rush.

Play of the game: The Hawks tried to keep pace with the high-powered Kerman offense. After getting a gift touchdown after a botched punt snap, the Hawks took over at their own 33-yard line leading by one. Wyatt Roth got the ball around the right end, cut inside, split the Kerman defense and outran the defensive backs for a 67-yard touchdown run for a 13-7 lead early in the first quarter.

Drive of the game: Liberty took possession in the second quarter trailing 21-19 and drove down the field. Wyatt Roth ran for a 10-yard gain and another 15 yards was tacked on by a penalty. Rylan Howe carried for 14 yards to the 13-yard line. On the next play, Kaleb Roth went around the right side and scored to regain the lead. However, a holding penalty was called and the touchdown was called back. The Hawks lost two yards on the ensuing four plays and turned the ball over on downs. Kerman scored four plays later to turn what could have been a 26-21 lead into a 28-19 deficit, a 14-point swing.
