Madera County Compact to honor Valley businesses
Madera Rehabilitation and Nursing Center and Pacific Ethanol will receive the Crystal Tower Award at the 14th annual Business and Education Shareholders’ Luncheon on Aug. 29, sponsored by the Madera County Compact.
The Crystal Tower Award is given to businesses that have displayed exemplary partnerships with schools in Madera County.
Madera Rehabilitation and Nursing Center was nominated by Mary Pietrowski at Madera South High School. Madera Rehab has been a partner with Madera South and Madera High Schools for more than 25 years.
They invite students to work at the facility and receive hands-on training to learn about the health care industry, which allows students to become certified nurse assistants. This entry-level nursing job gives students the ability to advance in the nursing field.
Pacific Ethanol was nominated by Kathy Woods at Madera County Superintendent of Schools. Pacific Ethanol has been a partner with the Manufacturing Day program for the past four years. They are a major contributor and a founding member of Manufacturing Day. Pacific Ethanol helps plan the event, hosts students at their site, and recently started an internship program. Pacific Ethanol also donates a t-shirt listing the event’s sponsors to all participating Manufacturing Day students.
The Madera County Compact will present a “Community Investment Award” to The Home Depot. The Home Depot was nominated by Hilda Castrellon at Furman High School. The Home Depot has been a partner with Furman High School for five years.
The Home Depot supports the school through the Christmas Tree of Hope program where they donate trees, lights and tree stands to the neediest students and their families. The only way most of these families are able to get a Christmas tree is through this program.
Jeff Unsinger of Pacific Ethanol and Glen McCall of Madera Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, will accept each award at the Business and Education Shareholders’ Luncheon at the Madera County Superintendent of Schools Conference Center from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Tickets are $30 per person or $240 for a table of eight. Business and community members are encouraged to attend.
Each year principals and superintendents from each school district in Madera County are encouraged to nominate businesses that have a strong relationship with their school.
A review board from the Madera County Compact reviews the nominations and selects businesses they feel best exemplify the goal and mission of the Compact.
The Business and Education Shareholders’ Luncheon is hosted by the Madera County Compact. The luncheon is sponsored by Big Brothers Big Sisters and the Madera County Superintendent of Schools.
The Madera County Compact is a coalition of business leaders, community leaders and education leaders working to support efforts to improve the quality of life in Madera County.
The Madera County Compact promotes business partnerships with schools to improve the achievement levels and skills of students and prepare young people for the increasing demands of society and the workplace.
