MALL 11s win third straight in District 10 title game
After losing its second game of the District 10 tournament, the Madera American 10-11-year-old All-Star team won three straight games in three days to advance to the championship game in the double-elimination tournament.
Madera American lost to Selma 8-7 on June 19. Then, Madera American won three straight games by a combined 31-3 score, including a 13-3 revenge victory over Selma on Friday.
Madera American began its comeback trail with a 12-0 victory June 21 over Chowchilla and followed that with a 6-0 victory over Reedley before defeating Selma in the semifinals.

Madera American avenged its loss four days earlier to Selma on Friday to advance to the District 10 championship game against River Park.
Madera American scored one run in the first, four runs in the second, two more in the third.
They added three in the fourth and fifth for the victory.
Abel Martinez kept Selma at bay and pitched into the fourth inning. He struck out five over 3 2/3 innings.
Josh Alvarez drove in a run in the first inning with a triple. Joseph Bass tripled in two more runs in the third. Eric Wilson drove in a run in the third with a double and Jojo Mosqueda hit an RBI single.
Bass and Jorge Gutierrez singled in the fourth. Wilson drove in a run with a single and Ryan Lutz drove in two more runs with a double.
In the sixth, Martinez and Ivan Castaneda drew walks. Alvarez doubled home a run and Bass singled home two runs for the 13-3 victory.
Madera American 6, Reedley 0
After taking a 1-0 lead in the first, Madera American didn’t put the game away until the fifth inning for a quarterfinal victory.
Madera American scored three runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth for the victory. Frankie Espejo kept Reedley off the scoreboard on the mound.
Martinez got the scoring started in the first. He drew a walk and scored on an Alvarez single.
Madera American stayed in front, but finally added to its lead in the fifth. With one out, Castaneda and Alvarez singled. Wilson drew a walk to load the bases. Espejo singled home Castaneda and Noah Castro singled home Alvarez and Wilson for a 4-0 lead.
In the sixth, Bass singled with one out. Martinez followed with another singled and both came in to score on wild pitches. Madera American 12, Chowchilla 0
Madera American bounced back from its loss to record a four-inning 12-0 victory over Chowchilla. Wilson was the star of the game, hitting two home runs and drove in seven.
Bass, Castro and Gutierrez also hit doubles.
Madera American opened the game with an eight-run first inning, sending 12 batters to the plate. The first batters reached base. After a sacrifice bunt, the next five batters reached base, highlighted by Wilson’s home run.
Madera American added four more runs in the second inning with a Wilson grand slam.
The combination of Castaneda, Lutz, Espejo and Mosqueda kept Chowchilla off the scoreboard.
