Fresno rental company pays damages, overtime wages

FRESNO, Calif. (AP) — The U.S. Department of Labor has ordered a Frenso-based rental company to pay more than $259,000 in damages and overtime wages to 157 workers.

The department found that JD Home Rentals did not keep accurate records of hours worked by employees and didn't pay them enough for overtime. Most of the affected employees were maintenance workers.

The Fair Labor Standards Act requires employers to pay time and a half for working more than 40 hours in a week.

JD Home Rentals Operations Manager Bryce Hovannisian says the company has a new system to make sure work time is accurately counted. He says the company found errors in the compensation calculations for many maintenance workers before the labor department began reviewing the case.
