Sinkhole closes road in Central California

HANFORD, Calif. (AP) — A Central California road is closed as crews work to repair a sinkhole that opened in Kings County.

KFSN-TV reports that the sinkhole opened Monday southeast of Hanford. No one was hurt but two cars were damaged and one of the drivers had to deal with three flat tires.

The sinkhole is about the size of a compact car and officials say it is expected to get bigger.

California Highway Patrol Sgt. Kenneth McCord says this is the third or fourth roadway collapse in Kings County in recent weeks. The cause of the sinkholes is unclear.
