While most high school wrestling fans have to pay an admission fee to view this weekend’s CIF State Meet in Bakersfield, the wrestlers competing in that ‘mother of all’ tournaments already paid a price of their own to earn a rightful spot there.
It was in the Central Section Masters tournament hosted by Madera South over the weekend where those wrestlers battled each other to earn a trip to Rabobank Arena — a place where the state’s elite will compete for titles beginning Friday morning at nine.
While the three-time state champion Clovis predictably cruised to another Masters title in a tournament that featured the Valley’s top wrestlers vying for nine spots in each weight class, there were several Madera County athletes who also secured their place in the state meet including four from Madera, two from Liberty and one from Madera South.
