CLOVIS — While the Madera Coyote girls basketball team was having trouble making shots, two Fresno Warriors players combined for 41 of the team’s 48 points at the Old Town Clovis Kiwanis New Year’s Classic at Buchanan High School.

The combination of guard Desiree Harding, who scored 19 points, and forward Heaven Lee, who scored a game-high 21, led the Warriors to a 49-39 victory Friday.

Madera’s reward for the loss is a 3 p.m. game today against the loser of County/Metro Athletic Conference rivals Bullard-Fresno or Edison-Fresno followed by a 6 p.m. game to determine fifth or seventh place.

“I’m fine with playing Edison or Bullard right now,” head coach Jason Smith said. “I know what’s happened in the past. We may get beat the first time we play them. Then, we learn what we can do and gameplan against them the next time and it’s a different game.” ...
