Walks lead to city champions

In the final two innings, Perko’s Café’s pitchers issued nine walks and Sunnyside-Fresno Little League champion, Tigers, advanced in the District 10 Tournament of Champions with a 14-8 victory.

The Madera American and City minors champions Perko’s rallied from a 5-2 deficit to tie the game, but couldn’t rally enough in the end. Trailing 10-8 in the top of the sixth, the Tigers scored four runs to put the game out of reach due to the five-run per inning rule for the minors.

After two innings, the two teams were tied at 2-2. Brian Monges and Benji Molina each scored and Murph Gray drove in a run.

The Tigers loaded the bases with one out in the top of the third. Monges struck out the next batter for the second out. A passed ball, wild pitch and a single scored three runs and the Tigers took a 5-2 lead...
