For the third straight year, a member of the Madera South girls soccer team will sign a National Letter of Intent to play with NCAA Div. II school Fresno Pacific University.

Like former Stallion players Cynthia Moreno (2011) and Vanessa Escobar (2012), senior defender Ana Walker will play next season for the Sunbirds after officially signing with the team Monday at Madera South High.

“First, I’m proud of the fact that we have three scholarship players in three years which beats the national average of one percent,” Madera South head coach Patrick Evans said. “All of them were recruited out of high school, not club (teams), which again kind of belies the myth that you have to be a club player to get a scholarship.”

Walker, a four-year varsity letterman, was the backbone of the Stallion defense for the past three seasons...
