With the National Football League season six months away, the Central Valley Vortex of the San Joaquin Valley Football League is bringing semi-pro football to Madera.
The Vortex, who have players from the Central Valley, will play five home games on Sundays in Memorial Stadium.
After a 24-6 victory over the Southwest Coyotes in the season opener last week, the Vortex opens the home campaign Sunday at 6 p.m. against the Mid Cal Nightmares. All proceeds from the game go to the high school programs.
“This level of football is an opportunity for players to get recognized or prepare themselves for any level of football,” Vortex owner Junior Mora said. “We have been around since 2006.” ...
