Volleyball tournament to benefit scholarship

With six courts to play on, a two-on-two doubles sand volleyball tournament will be held Saturday to raise money for the Landon Guglielmana Memorial Scholarship Fund.

Hosted by Madera South boys volleyball coach Steve Guglielmana, the event starts at 8:30 a.m. and will be held on the Landon Courts (7177 Road 29 1/2 off the Northeast corner of Avenue 7).

The fourth annual Italian Stallion tournament is in honor of Guglielmana’s son Landon, a 2009 Madera South graduate and star volleyball player who was tragically killed in an automobile accident in November of that year.

“For this tournament, we’re reflecting on a life that was well lived and just an example of what you should be as a young man or woman,” Steve Guglielmana said. “Two of the past scholarship winners, Evette Torres and Vanessa Escobar, will team up and play in the women’s division. Our past recipients are just good role models for the kids and are what we want young kids to see, so that they can follow that lead.” ...
