Underwood gets his first win

With an opening week that featured games against four Tri-River Athletic Conference schools, Madera Coyote baseball coach Andy Underwood may have started to wonder when his first win would come.

After losing 9-3 to top ranked Clovis West earlier in the day, the Coyotes banged out nine hits and held off a late Clovis East rally for a 9-7 victory in the Coca-Cola Classic on Saturday at Clovis East.

The Coyotes recorded 12 hits and scored eight runs in the first four innings for the victory. Clovis East made it interesting at the end with five runs in the final three innings.

“This is unbelievable,” said Underwood, who picked up his first win as a head coach. “My nerves were going crazy. We have struggled for three games in a row. The way they came out in the beginning was impressive.” ...
