Madera National Little League’s Kiwanis entered the league playoffs as the No. 3 seed last week.
They upset the No. 2 Creamer Ceramic in the first round and then ousted No. 4 seed Drs. Stevinsons’ in the MNLL championship game.
On the strength of smart baserunning and just enough hits to go with a momentum-sapping triple play, Kiwanis continued its underdog run with a 6-5 victory Saturday over Madera American Little League champion Lee’s Concrete at Mike Howe Field in Lions Town and Country Park.
“Going into the playoffs, league championship and city championship, people were telling us throughout the entire season,” said head coach Jeremy Collier. “At the end of the day, we won the championships. Hopefully, the critics are silenced. That’s why you play the game.” ...
