Turnovers lead to Coyote loss

DINUBA — Turnover was the name of the game in Madera’s season opening loss to the Dinuba Emperors at Claud Herbert Field.

The Coyotes committed two first-quarter turnovers that thwarted drives deep in Dinuba territory. Two fourth-quarter turnovers helped Dinuba score 21 points in a 5 1/2 minute span for a 42-26 victory Friday night.

“Obviously they were a key factor in the game,” Madera head coach Scott McKinney said. “This early, we both have young teams and mistakes happen.”

The Coyotes overcame their two early turnovers to score three straight touchdowns to come back from a 14-0 deficit to take a 20-14 lead. However, Dinuba scored three straight times before Madera closed out the scoring with 50 seconds left in the game...
