The Madera High Coyotes suffered a 42-27 loss to the Paso Robles Bearcats in a game much closer than the score would indicate in Madera’s home opener.
Madera (2-2) led the Bearcats (2-1) 27-20 with 10 minutes left in the fourth quarter Friday night, but a pair of rushing touchdowns, an interception, and a fumble recovery touchdown as time ran out was just too much for the Coyotes to handle.
Until that 10-minute mark, the game had been a backand-forth showdown at Memorial Stadium with the two teams exchanging scores on nearly every drive.
“This was our toughest test to date,” Coyotes Head Coach Scott McKinney said. “They sure presented us chances to win. It's hard to put this game in the loss column but I think we are better today than we were before we played them.” ...
