The Thomas Jefferson Middle School eighth grade baseball team scored four runs in the first two innings and held off El Capitan-Fresno for a 7-4 victory Wednesday.
El Capitan loaded the bases in the bottom of the second and cut the lead to 4- 2 before Chris Molina came on in relief.
Although Molina gave up the tying runs, he struck out six of the next seven batters in 2 1/3 innings.
With the Patriots holding onto a 5-4 lead, Adam Gomez singled to right. The ball was misplayed for an error and Jackson Leach scored from first. Two outs later, with Gomez on third, Mario Garcia blooped a single to left to extend the lead to 7-4...
