Madera Coyote quarterback John Brannon teamed with receiver Mark Beyer to lead the 2000 Coyote football team to its first playoff appearance in a few years.

In addition, back in 2000, Madera was in Division I and only eight teams were entered into the playoffs. Madera finished 5-5 and lost to top seed Bakersfield in the first round.

Brannon ended up earning nine varsity letters playing football, basketball and volleyball in his four years at Madera High that ended in 2001.

At the end of his senior year, Brannon, in addition to Beyer, were named The Madera Tribune’s senior athletes of the year...
