Former Fresno State men’s basketball coach and player Jerry Tarkanian has been elected to the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame as a part of the 2013 class.

Tarkanian, 83, who coached at Fresno State from 1995-2002, led Fresno State to the postseason in each of his seven seasons with the Bulldogs.

With a 104-79 overall record coaching the Bulldogs, Tarkanian ranks third all-time for most wins by a Fresno State head men’s basketball coach behind Boyd Grant (194) and Ed Gregory (172).

“We congratulate coach Tarkanian, an alumnus and former Bulldogs coach, on his upcoming induction into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame,” Fresno State President Dr. John Welty said. “He has demonstrated excellent coaching skills and a commitment to his players over the many years he coached basketball. We wish Jerry all the best.” ...
