Stallions wrestlers finish 5th at Mid-Cals

While the Stallions have some seniors with tremendous credentials, it is two freshmen that are making people stand up and take notice this season.

While state meet qualifier Charles Yllan (162), along with Juan Valladares (172) and Luis Placido (197) held up their end of the bargain by placing fifth, fifth and seventh respectively, Madera South freshmen Alexis Cortes (106) and Esteban Garcia (128) opened some eyes by placing and helping the Stallions capture fifth place in field of 67 teams over the weekend at the Mid-Cal Tournament in Gilroy.

Cortes placed fourth and Garcia seventh to add valuable points to the Stallions’ team total.

“We have a great balance of seniors and freshmen which is what you need in keeping a program consistent and competitive,” said Stallion head coach Jason Gaeth-Pearce. “We got seven of 10 wrestlers into the second day and I’m happy with our performance.” ...
