It took a little longer than Madera South boys soccer coach Cristino Armiento would have wanted, but the reward was worth the wait.
Freddy Reyes’ free kick goal almost 10 minutes into overtime gave the Stallions a 1-0 win over the Fresno Warriors in the North Yosemite League home finale Tuesday for their first boys soccer league championship.
Reyes, who was honored earlier on Senior Night, set up for a free kick at 25 yards out in the final minute of the first half of overtime. He launched the ball over the Fresno wall and into the upper left corner of the net for the game’s only goal.
