With a 4-2 lead on the road, the game-winning run at the plate and only one out, Stallions relief pitcher Donovan Bertoncini came to the mound in the bottom of the seventh inning with a lot on the line.
Needing a closeout save to keep the Stallions’ season alive, Bertoncini delivered solid pitches that flew out one batter and struck out the next looking on the way to a 4-2 division III playoff victory on Wednesday for Madera South.
“There’s no better feeling as a pitcher,” Bertoncini said about the save and getting the Patriots’ Justin Tivnen to strike out looking at the end of the game. “It feels great.”
